'er' verbs

  • To conjugate an 'er' verb, drop the 'er' and add the appropriate ending.

  • The past participle of an 'er' verb is formed by dropping the 'er' and adding 'é'.

  • To conjugate a regular 'ir' verb, drop the 'ir' and add the appropriate ending.

  • The past participle of a regular 'ir' verb is formed by dropping the 'ir' and adding 'i'.

'ir' verbs (2)
dormir dormi

dort dorment

  • The second group of 'ir' verbs includes the words mentir, partir, dormir, sentir, sortir, and servir.

  • The past participle of an alternate 'ir' verb is formed by dropping the 'ir' and adding 'i'.

  • When conjugating these words in the singular form, the first three letters are used as the verb stem. When conjugating these words in the plural form, the first four letters form the verb stem.

're' verbs
attendre attendu
attends attendons
attends attendez
attend_ attendent

  • To conjugate an 're' verb, drop the 're' and add the appropriate ending.

  • The past participle of a regular 're' verb is formed by dropping the 're' and adding 'u'.

  • Note that the third person singular of an 're' verb does not have a special ending and uses only the verb stem.
